Performance simulation of a hybrid geothermal rain water tank coupled to a building mechanical ventilation system

Large buried rain water recovery tanks are similar to single but large superficial geothermal probes that can be “thermally activated” by immersion of a heat exchanger. This hybrid concept is poorly studied in the literature. publication presents exchanger sizing and energy relevance rainwater tank used as supplier probe double-flow mechanical ventilation unit cool down fresh air summer preheat cold winter. The system has been stressed actual future climates (Strasbourg climate, France) testing different control strategies. study shows good performance this passive low tech provide sufficient cooling peak days (>1000 W for 8 m3 tank) while relieving sewage supply network. proves it's promising which spread areas (urban or rural) climate change natural resources depletion context.
